San Marcos — Southside Community Center is now accepting applications for the San Marcos River Work Camp program, where church youth groups work with Southside to renovate the badly damaged homes of local families at no cost to the homeowners.
The program is partially funded with a city of San Marcos Community Development Block Grant.
Homeowners in San Marcos city limits are urged to apply to have their home selected for renovations.
Interested applicants must meet the following guidelines: The home must be worth less than $65,000 on its last tax appraisal. It must not be a mobile home. It can not have renters living in the property. The applicant must be the homeowner, and the homeowner must live in the home. The home can not have a damaged foundation. Homeowners must be “low income” or “very low income” as determined by HUD. The home must be in the applicant’s name, and they must provide income verification, appraisals, proof the applicant is current on taxes or on a payment plan, and other necessary documentation.
Other restrictions apply. The job scope of each home will vary and may not necessarily include all renovations desired by the homeowner. The renovations will happen in June and July.
The application deadline is March 1.
