San Marcos —
The city will close Cheatham Street between East Hopkins Street and Rio Vista beginning Monday at 7 a.m. to begin a water line bore under Hopkins. The street will remain closed to through traffic until Sept. 17.
Residents and businesses located in the construction zone will have access to their property and mailboxes during construction. All other through traffic will be detoured to the IH-35 frontage road, Riverside Drive and Hopkins to avoid the area.
The construction is part of the $8.5 million Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood infrastructure project currently underway. Other ongoing project construction includes the installation of storm sewer, water services and wastewater services on Haynes Drive, Rio Vista and McKinnon.
Texas Sterling Construction Company of Austin began work in March on the neighborhood infrastructure project that is designed to alleviate drainage issues and provide new streets, curbs, sidewalks, water service and wastewater service to more than 300 families and 25 businesses.
