South Texas bus crash linked to broken drive shaft

Campbellton — Investigators say a broken drive shaft likely caused the tour bus crash south of San Antonio that left two people dead and 40 hurt.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela (TEE-la) Mange said Wednesday that the preliminary investigation shows the drive shaft came apart and fell off the Americanos USA bus.

The driver lost control Tuesday morning. The bus bound for the Mexican border city of Matamoros skidded off Interstate 37 and landed on its side near Campbellton.

Two passengers were dead at the scene. Another remains in critical condition.

DPS identified the fatalities as 62-year-old Christina Lozano Campos of Lewisville and 27-year-old Efrain Dominguez-Valenzuela of Brownsville.
