Bicycle tours returning to LBJ Ranch

Stonewall — Due to overwhelming response last spring, Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park announces the third annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour on Saturday, March 27 on the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall.

Luci Baines Johnson, younger daughter of Lyndon and “Lady Bird” Johnson, will officially start the 32, 45 and 62-mile (100 kilometer) rides at 9:00 a.m. from the historic ranch airstrip adjacent to the famed Texas White House.

Afterwards, at 2 p.m., Johnson will lead an easy seven-mile ride around the ranch.

This special ride includes reminiscences and stories about her parents and life on the ranch in the 1960s and includes several stops at various historic locations.

The longer rides of 32, 45 and 62 miles continue from the airstrip starting point and head north of the ranch into Gillespie County proper.  Three rest stops for water and snack breaks will be provided.

The fee for riding on any of the routes is $40 and includes a bandana, a goodie bag and a post-ride hot lunch.

Riders can register at www.lbj100bicycletour.org or in person from 4 to 8 p.m. at: Performance Bike, 7549 Westheimer, Houston, March 22,  Performance Bike, 16648 San Pedro Ave., San Antonio, March 24; Performance Bike, 3005 S. Lamar Blvd., Austin, March 25; Hill Country Bicycle Works, 702 E. Main, Fredericksburg, March 26.

Additional information is available by calling (830) 868-7128, ext. 244.

Billed as “A Ride to Preserve History,” the event is hosted by the Friends of LBJ National Historical Park, the Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club, Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, and Western National Parks Association, and others.  Proceeds benefit park programs and activities that enhance education programs and visitor enrichment.

Everyone is invited to participate in the 2nd Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour, A Ride to Preserve History.
