  • Richard Powell of Sugar Land posted the best time of 17:34 to become the best overall in the Friends of the San Marcos Cemetery's eighth annual From Here to Eternity 5-K run/walk. Powell accepted his trophy from Friends of the San Marcos Cemetery Vice President Nancy Scott.

  • Twenty-nine-year-old Amber Jones of San Marcos posted a time of 23:24 to become the fastest female participant in the Oct. 8 From Here To Eternity 5-K Run/Walk benefitting the Friends of the San Marcos Cemetery. Presenting Jones the specially cast tombstone trophy was Friends Vice President Nancy Scott.

  • Seven-year-old Carter Brown and his dad Brad both took home trophies from the Oct. 8 From Here to Eternity 5-K Walk/Run, sponsored by the Friends of the San Marcos Cemetery. Carter placed third in the male 0-19 division while Brad Brown placed second in the male 40-49 division. The father-son duo reside in Austin.

From Here to Eternity: Fundraiser for cemetery attracts quite a crowd

— Twenty-three-year-old Richard Powell of Sugar Land posted the best overall time from a field of 66 runners with 17:34 minutes in the eighth annual From Here to Eternity 5-K run/walk Saturday.  He was also declared the male overall champion.  

Twenty-nine-year-old Amber Jones of San Marcos posted a time of 23:24 to become the overall female champion.

Mike Vordenbaum of Fentress, 55, was named the male masters champion with a time of 20:39.  The female masters champion was Johnye Harriman of Belton, 58, with a time of 26:25.

Joey Galaviz of San Marcos, 16, posted the fastest time of 24:54 to take first place in the male 0-19 division.  Second went to Mihai Lowe of San Marcos, 10, with a 25:40 while seven-year-old Carter Brown of Austin took third with a 37:15.

Sean O'Neil of San Marcos, 20, came in first in the male 20-29 division with the run's second lowest time overall of 18:17.  Wesley Whitaker of Kyle, 26, was second with 25:41 while third went to Shaun Jaynes of San Marcos, 28, whose time stood at 36:00.

In the female 20-29 division, Laura Haderxhanaj, 29, was first with 24:55, followed by Kaytlin Green, 25, with 25:59 and Krista Stott, 25, who posted a 27:41.  All three top placers in that division were from San Marcos.

Attila Szundi, a 31-year-old from Debrecen, Hungary, was first in the men's 30-39 division with the run's third best overall time of 18:25.  Second place went to J. T. Brady of San Marcos, 30, with a time of  19:22 while Collin Bond of Kyle, also 30, was third with 20:00.

In the women's 30-39 age division, Aleesa Griffin of New Braunfels, 32, was first with a time of 29:18, followed by second place finisher Errin Jennings of San Marcos, 36, who posted  34:00 and third place runner Jennifer Cano of Lockhart, 31, whose time was 37:40.

Doug Brannagan of San Marcos, 49, was first in the men's 40-49 division with 36:35, followed by Brad Brown of Austin, 46, with 37:14 and Danny Hartsell of San Marcos, 44, with 44:51.

San Marcos runner Becky Miller, 44, was first in the female 40-49 division with 29:09, followed by second place finisher Page Brown of Austin, 45, who posted a 33:02.

Acensio Fierro of Smithville, 54, took first in the male 5-59 division with 22:14.  Second went to Elverto Bencomo of Seguin, 58, with 23:00 and third went to Buddy Albro, 52, also from Seguin, who came in with 23:23.

Sean Albro of Seguin, 52, was first in the female 50-59 division with 27:53. Second went to Julie Kantz of San Marcos, 54, with 29:45 while Kate Ground of Kyle, 54, came in third with a time of 40:30.

In the male 60-99 division, Carl Schreiber, 73, was first with a time of 33:52.  Second went to Wendell Wilson, 70, who posted 43:51, followed by James Cox, 62, who finished with 1:11:32. All three are San Marcos residents.

Kathy Cleveland, 60, placed first in the female 60-99 division with 54:39, followed closely by Barbara Piersol, 74, whose time was 54:43. Both women live in San Marcos.

Proceeds from the race benefit the cemetery.



    Race sponsors included Thomason Funeral Home, Wells Fargo Bank, Pennington Funeral Home and Jane Hughson. Race partners include the San Marcos Runners Club, the City of San Marcos, San Marcos Parks and Recreation, the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District and Corridor Awards.
