San Marcos —
The recent misty mornings are about to give way to drier weather, including several hours today during which Hays County will be under a Red Flag Warning.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. "along and west of a line from Georgetown to Austin to San Antonio to Pleasanton" as a dry front passes.
Winds could be as high as 25 mph, and relative humidities will be low, the NWS said. "After the most breezy and dry conditions occur in the middle to late afternoon hours...the winds will diminish...with relative humidities only slowly recovering with the loss of daytime heating," an advisory issued Saturday afternoon said.
Though the burn ban has been temporarily lifted in Hays County, residents are urged to use extreme caution when engaged in any activity that could start a fire.
The entire county remains under Extreme Drought, according to the U.S. Drought monitor issued each Thursday.
Later in the week, the NWS says there is a chance of rain, beginning on Tuesday and intensifying that night. Sunny conditions are expected to return by week’s end.
To report a fire, call 911.
