San Marcos — Due to low traffic levels during Spring Break, the city has shifted today’s Sessom Street Drainage and Pavement Improvements project focus to the intersection of Sessom and North LBJ.
This section of the project was scheduled for later in the 5-8 week project that began last week. However the city’s contractor, Austin Underground, believes this week is a prime opportunity to try to complete it before university students return.
Beginning today, the contractor is allowing traffic to move in all directions for the duration of construction.
There will be lane reductions on all approaches to the intersection to allow for enough room to complete the work. Traffic flow will shift as each quadrant of the intersection is completed and reopened. The current plan is to do the eastbound portion today and Wednesday, and the westbound portion Thursday and Friday.
The city anticipates completion of the intersection work by Monday of next week, weather permitting, officials said Monday.
The first phase of the Sessom Drive project will repair drainage inlets and install new culverts to improve drainage along Sessom. The project also will include some street reconstruction.
