Green Living Showcase March 20

Speakers will add color to chamber event


— The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce’s first ever Green Living Showcase is set to take place at the San Marcos Conference Center at Embassy Suites on Saturday, March 20.

The event is expected to bring together hundreds of homeowners and business people for a day of workshops, exhibits and demonstrations focused on providing all participants with many tools and resources to help them move toward a cleaner and greener future.  

The event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Some of the exhibitors who have already signed on include Tuttle Lumber Company, Texas Solar Power Company, Affordable Golf Cars, Rainfilters of Texas, Dean’s Shop, Green Guy Recycling and San Marcos/New Braunfels Farmers Market. 

More than 50 exhibitors have signed up.

Workshop presenters include Malcom Beck, Founder of Garden-Ville on “Organic Gardening,” Rick Burleson, Burleson Design group on “Green Building, Remodeling and Weatherization,” Diana Gonzales from PEC with “Going Green on a Budget” and “Savings Without Sacrifice,” Chris Maxwell Gaines on “Rainwater Harvesting, from rain barrels to whole house supply,” and Natalie Marquis, Habitat Suites on “Finding Your Shade of Green.”  

Fourteen workshops are scheduled throughout the day and attendees can see the full line-up at www.glshowcase.com.

 “We believe that the showcase will provide residents and businesses in our region with practical ways to incorporate sustainability into their lifestyles.  This event truly demonstrates San Marcos’ commitment to quality of life enhancements that will attract new residents and businesses looking at the IH-35 Corridor,” Clay DeStefano, chair of the Chamber of Commerce’s Natural Resources Committee, said.
