San Marcos —
A Buda man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the commission of a robbery at the Prime Outlet Mall in San Marcos.
On May 11 of last year, Trinidad Olivares, 20, confronted a female shopper in the parking lot of the mall while brandishing what later proved to be an airgun. Olivares ordered the woman to hand over the keys to her vehicle and then sped off in the car.
He was sentenced March 8 by District Judge Jack Robison.
The victim called 911 to report the incident and officers with the San Marcos Police Department located the stolen vehicle a short distance from mall. The vehicle began to flee prior to officers activating their emergency equipment.
A lengthy pursuit ensued before officers forcibly stopped the vehicle on Hwy. 21 outside of the city limits. The driver was identified as Olivares, and inside, officers located a black airgun matching the description of the weapon used in the robbery.
Olivares was also charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and was sentenced to two years in State Jail for that offense. Hays County District Attorney Sherri Tibbe praised the quick response of the San Marcos Police Department in apprehending Olivares.
