San Marcos — Ten San Marcos High School choir students recently auditioned for the Texas Music Educators Association's district choir.
They competed with public schools in Pflugerville ISD, Austin ISD, Bastrop ISD, Dripping Springs ISD, Lockhart ISD, Hays CISD and private high schools in Austin, Pflugerville, Dripping Springs and Wimberley.
There were about 600 students competing for limited positions the TMEA Region 18 Area Choir.
SMHS Choral Director Helen Miers said Monday that six out of the 10 SMHS students are moving on to the regional competition later this month.
Those students include:
• Katy Whitbeck, 1st chair, soprano 2
• Gabe Deleon, 3rd chair, bass 2
• Abby Bowers, 2nd chair, soprano 2
• Dwaylan Applewhite, 2nd chair, tenor 1
• Hunter Voyles, bass 1
• Sam Heaton, 8th chair, bass 2
“I was extremely proud of all the choir kids who came and worked. They were great, and everyone was so impressed with their polite behavior and willingness to help,” Miers said.
