The following was released by the National Weather Service Sunday morning:
A cold front will be pushing through south central Texas later today and
tonight bringing in much colder air that will stay over the area for the
next several days. In addition...a large upper level low pressure area
over CA/Baja CA will move east over the next few days. This upper low
will produce overrunning rains Monday and Tuesday that could amount to 1-3
inches in some spots. With temperatures expected to be in the 40s to near
50, it will make for a cold rain. Some areas may have to deal with some
isolated flooding issues...but with the rain expected to be over a 48 hour
period...it should minimize the threat. Best chances of heavy rain will
be east of the I-35 corridor.
This most interesting and difficult part of the forecast will come Tue-Wed
when the upper low finally tracks across Texas. This will bring cold
upper level temperatures that will allow some areas over the far western
hill country to maybe see some snow mixing with rain mainly Tue afternoon
into eary Wed morning. Rains should be exiting the area by Wed afternoon.
As of right now....surface temperatures and ground temperatures appear
too warm to allow the snow or ice to accumulate...but of course anytime
you deal with ice/snow in the hill country there is the threat for slick
spots on roads and bridges. We should be able to fine tune the forecast
and any ice threat as we get closer to the event...but as of right
now...the overall threat for accumulating ice/snow appears small.
