Runoff voting begins: Thomason, Coppoletta vie for Place 5 city council position

San Marcos — Early voting started on Monday for the Dec. 15 runoff election for San Marcos City Council Place 5.

Vying for the spot are home builder Ryan Thomason and academic advisor Lisa Marie Coppoletta.

The spot is up for grabs because incumbent Pam Couch decided not to seek another term.

In the general election Nov. 3, Thomason garnered 49.90 percent of the vote, just a handful of votes shy of winning the seat outright.

Coppoletta came in second with the approval of 26.20 percent of voters. The third person in that race, Shaune Maycock, got 23.91 percent.

Residents can vote early at the Hays County Election Office, 401-C Broadway, during normal working hours Mondays through Fridays this week and next. Hours will be extended to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 8.

Early voting will also be held at the LBJ Student Center on the Texas State campus on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, Dec. 15. Precinct polling places that day will be at:

• Precincts 110 and 113:  Elections Office, 401 C. Broadway

• Precinct 111:  Dunbar Center, 801 Martin Luther King Dr.

• Precinct 112:  Guadalupe Hall, 218 Roosevelt St.

• Precinct 114:  Allenwood Homes, 1201 Thorpe Lane.

• Precinct 116:  Hernandez Elementary School, 333 Stagecoach Trail

• Precinct 120:  San Marcos Housing Residents Office, 820 Sturgeon

• Precinct 315:  Doris Miller Middle School, 301 Foxtail Run

• Precinct 330:  Lamar Annex, 500 W Hutchison St.

• Precinct 332 and 334:  Old Fish Hatchery Building, 201 N. C M Allen Parkway

• Precinct 336:  Horizon Bay (formerly Merrill Gardens) Auxiliary Room, 1720 Ranch Road 12

• Precincts 127, 446 and 447:  Travis Elementary School, 1437 Post Road
