Texas State unveils redesign of university home page

San Marcos — Texas State’s digital hometown has a whole new look today with the launch of the redesign of the university’s homepage.

The design, which was more than a year in research and development, incorporates video, makes links easier to find and allows for more listings of university news and events.

“We believe this presents a cleaner, easier-to-use interface and also allows us to present a wealth of multimedia content to visitors,” said Diana Harrell, director of the Office of University Marketing, who oversaw the project.

Extensive study of best practices in university Web sites across the nation went into the planning and execution of the homepage, Harrell said. University web designer Paul Collins did much of the work and testing, with assistance from Nick Wing, a programmer in Instructional Technology Support.

The video content includes categories in three areas: “Rising Stars,” profiles of notable faculty, staff and students; “Be a Bobcat,” profiles of students; and “Bobcat Tube,” a compilation of video produced for and about Texas State.

The “Rising Stars” profiles were produced by Dean Brennan and Anlo Sepulveda of the Educational Technology Center, and the “Be a Bobcat” features were produced by Collins and David King of the Marketing Office. “Bobcat Tube” videos came from several sources and include television commercials produced for the university.

“We wanted our Web site to be much more of a rich experience,” Harrell said.

The new Texas State University-San Marcos website may be seen at www.txstate.edu .
