CASA gets toy drive help from local organizations
Community organizations in Central Texas took on the task of providing happy holidays to abused and neglected children this year.
CASA of Central Texas, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, asked local organizations again this year to gather toys for abused and neglected children in Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays counties.
Each child created a “wish list” that was written with their first name on a big paper cutout star. The CASA Stars were distributed to the organizations so groups could purchase gifts specifically for each child. Together, the organizations provided gifts for every child who requested one, serving more than 100 children.
Groups that purchased gifts for CASA children were the New Braunfels Girl Scouts, Buda United Methodist Church, Kyle United Methodist Church, American Veterans Post 104 of San Marcos and the Pan American golf Association of San Marcos. Gift cards for older children were also donated by Marilyn Burrow, Sandy Keogh, Alice Oliver Parrott, Joyce and Daniel Ross, Jamie and Gary Seals, and students at Rooster Springs Elementary School.
The children served by CASA have been removed from their homes because the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services determined they were living in unsafe environments.
CASA of Central Texas, Inc. advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system by recruiting, training and supporting community volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering or supporting CASA in any way, please contact the office at (512) 392-3578 or (830) 626-2272.
