The city of San Marcos is inviting residents to take an online survey through Sept. 6 about Time Warner Cable’s plan to convert public, government and educational channels (PEG channels) to digital format on Oct. 1.
The shift will mean that many customers will need digital converter boxes in order to watch City Council meetings, Planning & Zoning meetings and other programming on the city of San Marcos Time Warner Channel 10. Time Warner plans to move the city channel to digital channel 98.10, Texas State University channel to 98.16 and Austin Community College to 98.19 on some systems. The survey is online at www.sanmarcostx.gov.
Time Warner is offering one free box to basic or standard tier customers if they request one. They will have to pick up the box and install it themselves or pay Time Warner to install it.
New customers and many others will have to pay a monthly fee for each box with each television.
Grande customers are not affected by the change and will continue to see the city programs on Grande Channel 16.
