Part of Riverside now closed for project

— The city has closed Riverside Drive between Riviera Street and Cheatham Street to begin utility work and a water line bore under the railroad tracks.  The street is scheduled to remain closed to through traffic until Oct. 20.

Residents and businesses located in the construction zone have access to their property and mailboxes during construction.  All other through traffic is being detoured to Cheatham Street and Hopkins Street to avoid the area.

During the closure, Haynes Street may be accessible periodically from Riverside. The Hopkins Street water line bore has been postponed until after the work on Riverside is complete.

The construction is part of the $8.5 million Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood infrastructure project currently underway.

Texas Sterling Construction Company of Austin began work in March on the construction project designed to alleviate drainage issues and provide new streets, curbs, sidewalks, water service and wastewater service to more than 300 families and 25 businesses.

Project management is provided by Bain Medina Bain of San Antonio with Byrn & Associates of San Marcos as project engineer.  The Rio Vista Terrace construction is scheduled for completion in spring 2012.
