The award-winning San Marcos High School Diamond Line dance team brought home a bevy of awards for its hard work at summer training and camps where it competed and learned choreographed routines for the new school year.
In June, the 2010-2011 officers attended the H.T.E. Dance Officer Training Camp in Houston where they earned awards in technique, leadership, choreography and outstanding discipline.
This year's officers are Captain Brittany Natal, First Lieutenant Rachel Wheaton, Senior Lieutenant Justin Campos and Junior Lieutenant Chelsea Casner.
The Diamond Line Spirit Leaders also attended a camp in June that was hosted by Showmakers of America.
The SMHS Spirit Leaders received “Most Outstanding Officer Squad” on the first day. Brittany Vest and Paige Clayton also received “Miss Congeniality” recognitions.
August saw the 48 members of the Diamond Line dance team attending the H.T.E. Team Training Camp in Austin, where it earned the coveted “Spirit Stick” on days two and three of the camp.
Team members Justin Campos, Chelsea Casner and Mallory Swinney were selected for both the elite Kick Academy and the Dance Academy.
Also chosen for the Dance Academy were Brittany Natal, Rachel Wheaton and Elizabeth Hayes. Chosen for the Kick Academy were also Kyla Crumley, Sydney Huddleston, Amanda Sladek and Sharra Wilder.
All 2010 Kick and Dance Academy members were invited to travel to Hawaii with H.T.E. later this year.
In addition, all four officers were selected as Dance Academy members and named to an Academy Platinum officer line. As Academy Platinum members, the officers earned to privilege of participating in a special performance in Hawaii.
The Diamond Line is under the direction of Michelle Knight.
