CTMC extends support for stroke survivors

— Recovery from stroke or brain injury can be a continual process. The Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) Rehabilitation Institute and The Institute for Healthy Living provide the resources needed with “H.O.P.E.” a free support group for stroke and brain injury survivors, family members and caregivers. H.O.P.E. stands for Help and Healing, Outpatient support, Problem solving and Education.

Symptoms of a stroke include numbness or weakness of the face, arms or legs, especially on one side of the body; severe headache and trouble speaking or seeing.

The main purpose of the support group is to give the emotional, educational and community resource needs to survivors and their loved ones.

“The support group is designed to facilitate hope and healing with emotional reinforcement in a proactive and supportive forum,” MeMe Lake, director of CTMC’s Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute, said.

The support group will meet on the second and fourth Monday of every month in the CTMC Professional Building Conference Room from 3 to 4 p.m. The first meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 13.
