San Marcos celebrated all things mermaid Wednesday with the official kickoff of Mermaid Month.
Since its inception in 2016, a core focus of Mermaid Society SMTX’s mission has been the development of community centered, water focused educational programming for the San Marcos community's youngest members.
It was a celebration — the christening of the new Ivar’s Mermaid Patio — marking the beginning of many Mermaid moments to come. On Thursday, members of the community turned out for the first ever Mermaid Capital of Texas Fest — Pep Rally at Ivar’s River Pub. Attendees celebrated the upcoming festival and San Marcos's designation as the Mermaid Capital of Texas.

July Moreno was happily surprised when she received the call, she had been nominated for the Rogers Family Tourism Award — although it wasn’t the first time.
Mermaid Society SMTX will host its 3rd Annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 24. This free family-friendly event is open to the public from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Earth Day Celebration is Sponsored by My Emergency Room 24/7 San Marcos and in partnership with Wonder World Cave & Adventure Park. Social distancing and face masks are required. Hand sanitizer will be generously available for all guests.
Mermaid Society SMTX celebrated its fifth birthday with a drive-thru cupcake giveaway at Wonder World Cave & Adventure Park on Thursday.
The 4th Annual Mermaid Promenade took place in downtown San Marcos on Saturday morning.
