San Marcos — The Hays County Sheriff’s Office held a graduation ceremony for it’s most recent Basic Peace Officer Course on Sept. 18.
Ceremonies were held at Alkek Library on the campus of Texas State University.
The Basic Peace Officer Course is comprised of approximately 900 hours of classroom instruction and practical exercise that prepares the students for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education basic peace officer licensing exam. All students successfully passed the licensing exam.
This class was unique in that students came from a variety of law enforcement agencies including the Hays County Sheriffs Office, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, San Marcos Police Department, Kyle Police Department, Texas State University Police Department, San Marcos Fire Marshall’s Office and the Buda Fire Department.
During graduation ceremonies, Hays County Sheriff Tommy Ratliff commended the graduates for their hard work and dedication, welcomed them to the ranks of law enforcement officers and thanked the officers families for the time they sacrificed so that their love ones could successfully complete this course.
Special awards were given to Cadet Matthew Daenzer of the San Marcos Police Department and Cadet Mike Duffey of the Buda Fire Department for the top academic cadets, Cadet Matthew Daenzer of the San Marcos Police Department for best driver, and Cadet Cody Mikulencak of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office for Top Gun (best shooter).
