Signs of Hope

Hundreds of people turned out to commemorate the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King on Monday morning, despite a chilly drizzle. At the Hays County Courthouse were speeches and songs.

Those in attendance then marched down LBJ street to its intersection with MLK Drive, where Mayor Susan Narvaiz and Hays County Judge Liz Sumter signed documents turning land at that corner over from the county to the city. A marker will be installed at the site; possibly the only place in the country where two streets named after collaborators in the civil rights movement intersect.

The march then continued on to Dunbar Center where there was plenty of food and fun activities
