‘Meet and Greet’ with candidates on Tuesday
From Staff Reports
Candidates for District 1 for the Board of Trustees of San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District will meet the public at a Meet and Greet Reception on Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m., in the school library at Bowie Elementary.
San Marcos and Wimberley League of Women Voters sponsors the event to promote voter awareness and participation.
District 1 candidates for the three-year position are Naomi Narvaiz and Danny Gonzales. Candidates will be introduced and will give a brief statement of their interest in and experience for the Board of Trustees position.
One of the League's guiding principles is the belief in the representative form of government and individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States. The nonpartisan organization is open to both women and men. Another guiding principle of the League is that “Democratic government depends upon the informed and active participation of its citizens and requires that governmental bodies protect the citizen's right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings and making public records accessible.”
Jeannie Lewis, event chairperson, said, “The public is invited to the event, and we particularly encourage the voters of District 1 to meet the candidates in order to make an informed choice in the upcoming election.” District 1 covers residents in the areas of the High School, Goodnight Middle School, Bowie Elementary, DeZavala Elementary, and Mendez Elementary.
The election is Saturday, May 10, at New Life Christian Center 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with early voting Monday, April 28, through Tuesday, May 6, at the Hays County Government Center.
