CTMC and HCWC team up to fight sexual abuse of children

Sunday, August 19, 2018

Central Texas Medical Center recently partnered with Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center and will provide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners for exams when sexual abuse of a child is suspected.

Roxanne’s House is a children’s advocacy center and a program of the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center that has served the community’s children for 21 years. When sexual abuse of a child is suspected in Hays and Caldwell counties, there is a multi-disciplinary team of professionals who each work on the investigation and prosecution of the case. These specialized exam nurses from CTMC are an important part of that team and will now provide exams at Roxanne’s House in addition to CTMC. The child and non-offending family members can then receive specialized trauma-focused counseling to reduce the impact of the child abuse. Last year, Roxanne’s House served 399 children.

CTMC President/CEO Anthony Stahl commended the work at Roxanne’s House, “This program does remarkable work for young women and children in our community. The specialized nurses at CTMC are trained with the sensitivity and compassion to help these young women and children at a critical time in their lives.”

Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC) Board Chair Laura Dupont added, “Roxanne’s House is a child-friendly facility that reduces the trauma for children who have experienced abuse. This partnership allows these children to have most of the evidence collection done in a place that is best for the child. We are grateful to CTMC for extending this service to the children in our community.”
