Four San Marcos City Planners receive APA certification

Wednesday, November 20, 2019

Four Planners in the San Marcos Planning & Development Services department — Andrea Villalobos, Matthew Johnson, Tory Carpenter and Will Parrish — obtained their American Institute of Certified Planners Certifications from the American Planning Association (APA), the City announced in a press release.

The four staffers are not alone, but joined four other colleagues as Certified Planners: Amanda Hernandez, Abby Gillfillan, Michael Ostrowski, and Shannon Mattingly.

“We are so proud of our team and the hard work they have put in to become AICP certified,” Michael Ostrowski, Assistant Director of Planning & Development Services said in a press release. “It’s an impressive accomplishment to have a majority of our planning staff hold this honor.”

The staff members obtained the certification by taking an exam over expertise in the field of planning, and will be required to complete annual continuing education and professional development to maintain the certification, the City said in a statement.
