New charge to park at Meadows Center

The area around Spring Lake is thought to be the oldest continually inhabited spot in North America, and for generations of San Marcos residents, it’s been a place to visit when the soul needs to be soothed.
Old photos show it’s been that way for hundreds of years, as men in suits and women in long flowing dresses were pictured boating or picnicking there. Prior to the building of the dam in the mid 1800s, there was no lake, but the area around the springs were open to all.
