John Gordon Murphy, a junior at San Marcos Academy, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in Boy Scouts. Only 4 percent of Boy Scouts go on to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

The First United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch on West Hutchinson Street is open and selling traditional pumpkins, Speckled Swan Gourds and Ghost Pumpkins. The patch is open until Oct. 31 from noon to 8 p.m. Sundays through Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Proceeds are split evenly between School Fuel and Project Transformation.
