Charles 'Lamar' LaCaze
Charles “Lamar” LaCaze, Jr. of Kyle, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, passed away on April 23, 2014, at the age of 69. He was born Jan. 26, 1945 in Oakdale, La., to Versa Willie (Ingalls) LaCaze and Charles Lamar LaCaze, Sr.
Lamar also affectionately known as “POP” was most proud of his grandkids as he was their #1 fan on and off the court/field. Once their friends met him, he became “POP” to all.
He graduated from Kyle High School in 1963 and married Lois Holt LaCaze at Kyle First Baptist Church on Oct. 12, 1963. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends.
Lamar was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1966, serving for two years before returning to Kyle.
He was the 5th owner of the 101-year-old barber shop on the square in downtown San Marcos. Purchasing the shop from “Slim” Stockton in 1972, Lamar operated “Lamar’s Barber Shop” for the last 41 years. Lamar also enjoyed barbering at San Marcos Baptist Academy for 20 years and volunteered his time to the SMBA Mounted Patrol providing horses, transportation and leadership.
Lamar was a member of Kyle First Baptist Church, Hays County Livestock Expo Board of Directors and received Honorary Membership, Hays County 4-H Leaders’ Association, Kyle 4-H Club Manager, BUK Rider’s 4-H Club Manager, Live Oak Masonic Lodge #304, served as Grand Marshal, Hays County Sheriff Reserve Deputy, Kyle Volunteer Fire Department and Hays Youth Baseball and Softball Coach.
He is predeceased by his parents; daughter Lisa Kay LaCaze; granddaughter Addison Lynn Higgins; brother Melvin LaCaze; sister Shirley Holubec and brother-in-law Joe Holubec and parents-in-law Judge James Holt and wife, Margaret.
He is survived by his devoted wife Lois (Holt) LaCaze; two daughters, LaDonna Tate and husband Charley of Gonzales and Lori Higgins and husband Kyle of Bellville; son Trey LaCaze and wife Lacey of Kyle; brother Ronnie LaCaze and wife Diane of San Marcos; 11 grandchildren, Sabrina Nelson and husband Michael Nelson, Sheridan Tate, Grayson, Easton and Lexington Higgins, Logan, Kinzie, Ashlyn, Layton and Lamree LaCaze and Ella Wunderlich.
Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, 1 to 3 p.m. today. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 28 at the First Baptist Church in Kyle, with the Rev. Jeff English and Rev. Robert Horton officiating. Interment to follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale. Serving as pallbearers will be Grayson Higgins, Logan LaCaze, Easton Higgins, Layton LaCaze, Michael Nelson, Alan Holt, Ron LaCaze, Jr., Mathew Posey, Jacob Posey and Justin LaCaze-Gallardo.
