Judith Eileen Fog Kirtley

Judith Eileen Fogg Kirtley, 62, died in a fire at her home in San Marcos on Jan. 20, 2008.

She was born in Spring Branch, Ill. but spent her early years in Thailand and Indonesia where her parents were Presbyterian missionaries. As a young child she often accompanied her parents on sampan trips on the canals of Bangkok.

Later as a teenager she traveled with her father throughout the many islands of Indonesia. A special event was captured in a photo of her in Balinese dress with the Sultan of Bali.

Judith attended the Bangkok International School, graduated high school at St. Hughes and St. Hildas Episcopal School in New York City in 1962 and, received her BA from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1966.

She began her professional life working for the University of Texas in Austin in the Intensive English Program for foreign students.

At the time of her death she was working in the Office of Veterans Affairs at Texas State University in San Marcos.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Balcom Fogg; her father, Ernest L. Fogg, Jr.; her brother, Dennis Mark Fogg; her grandparents, Claire and William H. Balcom, Sr. of Corsicana, and Gertrude and Dennis Dawson Parker of San Antonio.

Survivors include her son, William Alan Kirtley, a lieutenant with the City of Austin Fire Department; her brother, Stephen William Fogg and his wife Maria of Panther Creek, NC; stepbrother, Stephen Allen Babcock and wife, Kathy of Fort Myers, Fla.; nephews Dawson Fogg Panther Creek, NC and Jay Babcock of NYC; niece, Margaret Ashley Fogg Dragoon, Lincolnton, NC, and stepmother, Carolee Fogg of Fort Myers, FL. Judith is also survived by her aunt, Alice Fogg of Blanco and many Texas cousins in Corsicana, Blanco and San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held at a later time. Contributions in memory of Judith Kirtley may be made to the Austin Firefighters Fund, 7537 Cameron Rd., Austin, Tx., 78752.
