After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S, Air Force, Leonard returned to university to complete his studies.

He coached football at several different high schools, including San Marcos High School before retiring in 1979. Farming since 1972, was one of his greatest joys, along with his family, socializing with his friends and the many students he coached in the state of Texas.

His parents and his brother, Bill Germer (2006) preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell, with the Rev. Craig Gabriel and the Rev. John Schwartz officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Faseler, Buzzy Allert, John Finch, Dick Hammond, Clint Roberts, Randy Rutherford, Russell Germer and Glen Germer. Honorary pallbearers will be the many basketball and football players whom he coached.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 95, Maxwell, TX 78656, or a charity of one's choice.
