Marice E. ‘Mel’ LaVergne

Maurice E. “Mel” LaVergne of San Marcos, formerly of Houston, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008 at the age of 76. He was born on Aug. 6, 1931 in Houston to Edmond and Enola (McGee) LaVergne.
Mel was a graduate of St. Thomas High School in Houston. He was a successful real estate broker spanning over 40 years, a member of the Houston Apartment Association for 20 years and The Stone Brook “Rat Pack” Association. He was also the former proud owner of the West Texas ghost town, Terlingua.
Mel is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Tris John, Amos William and Paul Jerome LaVergne.
He is survived by sons, Larry LaVergne and wife Karen, their children Lauren and Lana of New Braunfels, Jerry LaVergne of Arlington and David LaVergne of Austin; his companion and friend Margaret Williams; other loving family and friends Clara and Andrew Mansolo, Shirley LaVergne, Pat and Leigh LaVergne, Carol Neelley, Bill and Meg LaVergne, Mary and Brad Johnson, Kathy and Bud Roach, Jim LaVergne; his feline companion Chevy and numerous extended family members.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 5, with a celebration service at 6 p.m. at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 at Chapel of Angels in Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, with graveside services following.
