Jack Layne Thorne
Jack Layne Thorne passed away Tuesday morning, May 6, 2008, in Norman, Okla. Jack was born in Manhattan, Kansas on Oct. 25, 1953, to Maurice "Tom" and Delores "Dee" Thorne. Jack spent his childhood in the Flint Hills of Kansas with his older brother, Mike Thorne. Jack was a loving child who could light up the room. He discovered his talent and passion for playing the piano at a young age. He was prominent in baseball, basketball, and cross country running. His father - his life coach and baseball coach - shaped his enthusiasm for sports. As family, they rallied faithfully for Kansas State University sports.
After graduation from high school, Jack attended Kansas State University, Wichita State University, and Southwest Texas State University. During his journey for higher education, he found fatherhood. His children, Ashley, Adam, and Megan became his world.
The summer of 1996, Jack met Vicki at a local Norman historical hotspot. From there they fell deeply and madly in love. Jack hung the moon and the stars in Vicki’s world from this point forward. On July 8, 1998, Jack committed to being Vicki’s Knight in Shining Armor for the rest of his life. Together, they shared a passion for buying and selling antiques. They spent the last 12 years with friends and family traveling around the US.
Jack was a gifted musician, a strong athlete, an avid KSU fan, a loving son, a fond brother, an adoring father, a devoted husband, and joyful friend. Jack had a wonderful, dry sense of humor and an intoxicating smile. He gave his family and friends a tune to life that will play on with us forever.
Jack was preceded in death by his father Maurice Thorne. Survivors include wife, Vicki Johnson of the home in Norman, Okla., his mother, Dolores Thorne of Norman, Okla., his brother, Mike Thorne and wife, Rosemary of Durham, N. C., his children, Ashley and Adam Thorne of Wichita, Kan., and Megan Thorne of Norman, and his grandchild, Madison Leierer of Wichita, Kan.
