William Carroll Akin
William Carroll Akin, born Feb. 23, 1920, to Silas Nathan Akin and Stella Elizabeth Ford Akin in Fairy, passed away on May 20, 2009 in San Marcos.
Preceded in death by his parents and brothers Norvell, Truman, Dalton, Elbert, Lloyd and Silas Nathan Jr., and son Kenneth Wayne, he is survived by his wife of 60 years Francine Schleicher Akin, children Betty Clough, Ronald Akin, Sharon Bragg (and husband Wilbert), Dan Akin (and wife Michele), and Kathy Rogers. Other survivors include his 13 grandchildren Silas Akin, Sarge Bragg (and wife Kristy), Noella Moss (and husband Kevin), Job Bragg, Micah Bragg, Rosanna Bragg, Kaytha Bragg, Sara Johnson (and husband Jeff), Jacob Akin, Craig Akin, Reed Rogers, Lauren Rogers and Paige Rogers. He is also survived by his five great-grandchildren Evan Bragg, Abby Bragg, Nathan Moss, Miranda Moss and Trystan Bragg.
Carroll served in the U.S. Navy submarine service during World War II. He was a professor of mathematics at Southwest Texas State University. After his retirement, he worked for Pedernales Electric Company for about 10 years.
Known for his wit, sense of humor, inventiveness and story-telling ability, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family and friends, as well as his caretakers, therapists and staff at Hays Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The family thanks the Hays staff for their loving care.

Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today. Private family graveside services will be held at the Comal Cemetery.
