Jose S. Ortiz

Jose S. Ortiz. 84, of San Marcos, passed away peacefully in his home on June 14, 2009 surrounded by his children and family.

He was the son of Panfilo and Eutimia Ortiz and on Jan. 18, 1944, Jose married his wife of 64 years, Camila Reyes. This union blessed them with three children, Richard, Margie and Rose Ann.

Jose proudly served his country in the United States Army in the M.P. Detachment.

He also was a dedicated and hard working employee of Central Texas Medical Center for more than 30 years.

Having his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren over for family gatherings brought him much joy and they enjoyed visiting him frequently. His hobbies included gardening, doing chores around his house and listening to big band music. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family who loved him dearly.

Jose is survived by his wife Camila Ortiz of San Marcos; son, Richard Oritz of San Antonio; daughters, Margie Escareno and husband Tony of Maxwell and Rose Ann Zamora and husband Dr. Carlos Zamora of San Marcos; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his beloved daughter-in-law Martie Ortiz; sister, Janie O. Hernandez and brother, Francisco Ortiz.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Panfilo and Eutimia Ortiz; sisters, Sara O. Pastrano and Trinidad O. Suarez; grandchildren, Marco Antonio Zamora and Rebecca Marie Salazar.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr. Gregory Moore, CTMC Hospice, Irene and Ceaser Ramirez and Janie O. Hernandez for the care they gave him during his illness.

Serving as pallbearers are Robert Salazar, Carlos Zamora, Tim Hannie, Cesar Salas, Ceasar Ramirez and Henry Saenz. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons, Romey Salas and Aaron Hannie and his dear friend Adrian Hernandez.

Visitation will be held between 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17 at Thomason Funeral Home where a Rosary will lead by Gilbert Lombardo. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 18 at St. John's Catholic Church officiated by Father Larry Stehling.

Interment will follow in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Martindale.

Funeral arrangements under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home, 396-2300.
