R.C. O'Neill
Richard C. “Dick” O'Neill, 77, passed away in his home in Wimberley on June 18, 2009. Born on July 19, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was a resident of Wimberley since 1998.
Dick was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a submariner. He was a graduate of Utah State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. His professional career spanned positions as founder and President of American Energy Company in Odessa, Texas; President of Trend Construction in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Vice President of Construction at Ford, Bacon and Davis in Dallas; Vice President of Construction at EA Engineering in Dallas and environmental engineering management positions with Roy F. Weston and Foster Wheeler in Houston.
Dick's personal pursuits included a passion for golf and skiing. He proudly represented the United States as a member of the U.S. Olympic Ski Team in 1948 in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Dick is survived by his wife, Gwen O'Neill; daughters Carolyn Miller of Houston, Kerry Pendergrass of Lubbock, Erin O'Neill of Irving and Seana McQuitty of Amarillo; grandchildren: Ethan Miller, Hannah Miller, Sean Miller, Jordan O'Neill, Michele O'Neill, Carl Pendergrass, Ryan Nash and Kaydan Stidham; several great-grandchildren; sister Kate, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne Cooksey, sister Robin, son Kevin and his faithful canine companion of 16 years, Amber.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Scooter Store for its compassionate gift of mobility and to CTMC Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos.
