Howard Reid Yeargan Sr.
Howard Reid Yeargan Sr., 72, of San Marcos, passed away on July 31, 2008 in Austin. He was born on Dec. 18, 1935 To Edwin V. and Fern (Johnson) Yeargan in Corpus Christi.
Yeargan graduated from H.M. King High School in Kingsville. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1957 with a Bachelors of Science in Ag Education, which he followed with a Masters of Science in Ag Eco at Texas
A&M in 1960. Also, an abd in Economics at Oklahoma State University in 1967.
Yeargan had more than 40 years in education and worked for 32 years at Southwest Texas State University as an economics professor. He spent more than 33 years in a partnership developing River Oaks of Wimberley, was the owner of River Bend Resort on the Frio River and was in the cattle business in Uhland. From 1960-2005, Yeargan was a director at Balcones Bank. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of San Marcos, very active in the Crusaders Sunday School Class and the Chancel Choir. He loved music as he was a composer of many songs that he shared with his family, friends, his students and his church. His love for his family and friends showed in his daily life and he will be greatly missed by all.
Yeargan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan; two sons, Howard Reid Yeargan Jr. and wife, Cindy of New Braunfels and Mark Andrew Yeargan and wife, Kim of Uhland; daughter Susan Elizabeth “Beth” Sanders and husband Paul of Concan; three grandchildren, Caitlynn Elizabeth Sanders, Allyson Camille Sanders and Kallie Nicole Yeargan.
Memorial contributions in Howard Yeargan Sr.'s name may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 129 W. Hutchison, San Marcos, TX 78666 or to the charity of choice.
Family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pennington Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 at the First United Methodist Church of San Marcos with Dr. Jenna Heart officiating. Interment to follow in San Marcos City Cemetery, San Marcos.
