Janie V. Patranella Hawthorne

Janie V. Patranella Hawthorne, 69, of Bryan, passed into the arms of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hillier Funeral Home with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Center, located at 603 Church Ave. in College Station.

Janie was born on Oct. 15, 1938 in Bryan. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Janie worked for many years in the public school systems, and in her retirement enjoyed traveling with her husband, fishing with her son-in-law and supporting the Aggies.

Janie and Jack spent more than 49 years deeply in love with each other. They enjoyed traveling to Italy and going to Las Vegas several times a year. Janie loved her grandchildren and was very active in their lives. She loved to watch the Aggies and had not missed a home football game in 25 years, and delighted in yelling at the referees. She loved to fish and was always ready to hook the big one, as long as someone else took the fish off.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank L. and Janie Patranella and Jack Shimen and Rose Patranella Shimen, who raised her as their daughter; a sister, Bonnie Patranella Grizzaffi and brothers Luke V. Patranella and John J. Patranella.

Survivors include her devoted husband and best friend, Jack Hawthorne; daughter and son-in-law Dianna and Chip Hosek; sons and daughters-in-law Mark Hawthorne, Kent and Chris Hawthorne and Gary and Chris Hawthorne; grandchildren Russell Ramsey, Connor Ramsey, Mason Hosek, Amber Hawthorne, Brixx Hawthorne, Lynx Hawthorne, Lexy Hawthorne and Barron Hawthorne; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam J. and Phyllis Patranella and Frank L. Jr. and Susan Patranella and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School, 1600 Hwy. 2004, Richwood, TX, 77531.
