Isabel "Chavela" Garcia, a resident of San Marcos, was called to her eternal rest and escorted by the angels to be with our Father in Heaven on March 12, 2010 at the age of 82.
Born July 7, 1927, in Maxwell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Seferino Garcia; parents Antonio and Ramona Serna; brothers Atanacio, Jesus and Antonio Jr. Serna; sisters Juanita Serna, Augustina Gonzalez, Virginia Garza and Antonia Fernandez.
Survivors are sons Richard Garcia of San Marcos and Eddie Garcia and wife Frances of San Marcos; daughter Gloria Sustaita and husband Joe of San Marcos; brother Francisco Serna of San Marcos; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family would like to give a special thank you to CTMC Hospital and CTMC Hospice, Dr. Charles Anderson and Frances Garcia for their warmth and care of our mother,
and in memorium of Mary Alice Clark for the wonderful care she gave our mother during her time on earth. The outpour of love and support of family and friends is greatly appreciated.
Visitation was Tuesday, March 16, from 2 to 7:30 p.m. at Los Angeles Funeral Home, 300 Cheatham St., San Marcos. Recitation of Rosary was Tuesday evening at Los Angeles Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in San Marcos.
Rev. Father Larry Stehling will officiate. Interment will follow in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
Serving as pallbearers are Jacob and Christopher Garcia, Atanacio Serna, and Jeremy, Matthew and Stephen Sustaita.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Melissa Sustaita and Joshua Garcia.
