Caroline Frances Schiwitz Fuchs

— Caroline Frances Schiwitz Fuchs, 93, a lifelong resident of Uhland, passed into her heavenly home on January 21,2012.  We already miss her love, her laughter and her späetzel.

Caroline was born in her parent’s home in Neiderwald, Texas on October 23, 1918.  She moved to Uhland, Texas, as an infant, where she and her younger sister, Gladys, were raised by their parents Max Edward Schiwitz and Anna Marie Seeliger Schiwitz.

Caroline attended Carl Weigand School in Uhland.  Upon high school graduation she left Uhland to attend Texas Lutheran College, a junior college, in Seguin, for two years.  She continued her education at Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College in San Marcos, where she graduated with a degree in Education.  She returned to Uhland and first taught in a one room school that was dedicated to Spanish speaking students, before teaching at Rogers Ranch School. During this time she also  gave piano lessons.

In 1940 she was married to Adolph Dayton Fuchs Jr.  They celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to his death in 2004.  They operated Uhland Mercantile Co. until their retirement in 1978.  As an active member of St.  John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church she served as church organist, taught Sunday school and belonged to the Women’s Guild.  She also served in the PTA and as a Trustee on the school board of the Kyle ISD.  The joys in life were her family and dancing and traveling with A.D.

She was a loving mother, dedicated sister, caring aunt and great-aunt, proud grandmother and great-grandmother.

Caroline is survived by her younger sister Gladys Schiwitz Sorrells, of Uhland, her sister-in-law Opal Louise Fuchs Schnelle, of Fredericksburg, her daughter Diane Marie Fuchs Garonzik and son-in-law Lynn Alan Garonzik, of Dallas and her daughter-in-law Diana Berry Fuchs, of Houston.
