Romana R. Garza, 79, a resident of San Marcos, passed away Jan. 24, 2012. She was born May 2, 1932, in Staples to Lazaro and Romana (Flores) Rodriguez, Sr.
She grew up in the area and will be remembered as a kind and gentle woman who was unselfish and opened her home and her heart to others. She will be greatly missed by her family who were her main concern and her source of happiness.
Romana is preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Joshua Garza and and her son-in-law San Juan Espinoza.
She is survived by her husband of more than 58 years Luis Garza Sr. of San Marcos; her children Antonia Ruiz and her husband Louis of Kyle, Hortencia Garza of San Marcos, Alicia Roche and her husband Edwin of Killeen, Susie Garza of San Marcos, Emma Villarreal and her husband Octavio Diaz of San Marcos, Dora G. Moreno and her husband Leonard Moreno Sr., of San Marcos, Luis Garza Jr., and his wife Barbara of San Marcos, Miguel Garza and his wife Delvia of San Marcos and Ricardo Garza and his wife Rosie of San Marcos.
Romana is also survived by her sister Beatrice Rios and her brother Andres Rodriguez, 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and other loving relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 27 from 1to 9 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. A Rosary will be recited that evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at St. John's Catholic Church in San Marcos. Burial will follow in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
