Eleonore ‘Ele’ Evans

Eleonore “Ele” Evans, 82, of LaGrange and formerly of Victoria and Fischer, died Oct. 29, 2008 at Jefferson Place in LaGrange. Ele was born Aug. 14, 1926 in Jennings, La., the eldest daughter of Alphonse and Eleonore Ayo. She married Stuart “Bill” Evans Sept. 11, 1949 in Orange. Ele raised five children and worked tirelessly at SWTSU in San Marcos for 30 years.

Survivors include Bill Jr. and Sally Evans of Victoria, Al “Tim” and Linda Evans of Deltona, Fla., Randy and Patricia Evans of Boerne, Wayne and Shane Evans of San Antonio and Michelle and Marcus Recek of LaGrange. Her surviving grandchildren include Erin and Chris Varnell, Kurt and Lisa Evans, and Sara and Justin Buskirk, all of Pearland; Cole Evans, U. S. Army, Brittney and Courtney Evans of Tampa, Fla., Isaac Evans of Lubbock, Zachary Evans of Boerne, Kayci, Wesli, and Braydi Evans of San Antonio, and Natalie, Jessica, and Jeffrey Recek of LaGrange. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Grace Varnell. Also surviving are a brother, Al Ayo of Mobile, Ala., sister Emma Ramsey of Lafayette, La., sister Betty Gully of Uvalde, sister Elsie and Bob Mahlstedt, and brother Dennis Ayo of St. George, UT, and brother Tommy and Sis Ayo of Spotsylvania, Va.. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers, Richard and Jimmy and sister, Beverly.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Rev. David Green will officiate. Interment will follow in Wimberley Cemetery in Wimberley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 149100, Austin, TX 78714-9100.
