— Billie Jean Wilson, devoted wife, beloved mother and “Granny,” a long-time resident of San Marcos, passed away Feb. 6, 2010 at the age of 81. She was born Oct. 6, 1928 to Ray Rodney and Linda Ellinda Clark on a farm in Bishop, which instilled in her a lifelong love of the land. She singlehandedly managed and preserved her family lands in the coastal bend area and west Texas for all of her adult life.
Billie was a Magna cum Laude graduate of Texas A&I University. She married her loving husband Wilton Leland Wilson Sept. 1, 1951 in Kingsville and together they created a home filled with love for their children and grandchildren. They demonstrated their love and support for everyone in the family, attending musical, sporting and livestock events over the years and encouraging each child to pursue his or her career and family goals.
She is survived by devoted husband Leland Wilson of San Marcos, sister Linda Rae Marshall of Austin, loving son David and wife Vicki of San Antonio, loving daughter Sara and partner Lorette of Milwaukee, Wis., granddaughters Chesney Wilson Woods and husband Trey of Cibilo, Chantry Wilson VanderZee and husband Jacob of Pipe Creek, grandson Cade Wilson and wife Chelsea of Levelland, great grandchildren Quade and Molly Woods and Tynlea Wilson.
The family will receive friends today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of San Marcos. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. Interment will be private. Rev. Mark Newton will officiate.
Grandchildren and spouses will serve as pallbearers.
