Thomas Murry McClanahan

Thomas McClanahan Murry, 74, of Kyle, passed away Oct. 9, 2009.

He was born Feb. 14, 1935 in Richardson to Leo and Ione (Ebert) McClanahan.

Thomas was a life-time resident of Hays County.

He graduated from San Marcos High School in 1953, and in November, 1953, he married Margie Shafer whom he had known since the eighth grade.

He attended Southwest Texas State University and worked for many years as a security guard for the state and federal governments.

Thomas enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. One of his hobbies for many years was collecting and flying model airplanes. He also was known throughout the area as an avid Ham Radio operator which he did for about 53 years.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Margie (Shafer) McClanahan of Kyle; daughter Debra Rasmussen of New Braunfels; sons Tom McClanahan and his wife Suzanne of Austin, and Darrell McClanahan and his wife Lisa of Buda.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Robyn Handy of Colorado Springs, Brian Rasmussen of Colorado Springs, Kyle McClanahan of Austin, Emily McClanahan of Austin, Connor McClanahan of Buda, Michaela McClanahan of Buda and great-granddaughter Lauren Handy of Colorado Springs.

In keeping with his wishes, Thomas will be cremated and the family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
