Marjorie Hinze

Marjorie Hinze, formerly of San Marcos, cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the age of 88. She was born May 15, 1921, in Chilton to Hilary Lawson and Josephine Estelle (Garrett) Barganier.

Marjorie was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

She started church libraries and traveled extensively helping other San Marcos Baptist Associations with the start up of their libraries, including the First Baptist Church, using many of her own books.

She was proud of having worked on the movie, “The Getaway” starring Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw. She was an incredible seamstress – making outfits for the SWT Strutters, amongst others. With this God given talent, she was able to duplicate without a pattern, simply by looking at photographs.

Marjorie loved children, especially raising her own children, grand and great-grandchildren, and also enjoyed working in the church nurseries. In 1972 she was recognized and honored by the San Marcos Daily Record as “Mother of the Year.”

Her husband, Ernest C. Hinze, Sr. (1979), her parents, a sister, Imogene Barganier and two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Hinze and Cheyenne Glen Hart preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Ernest C. “Buddy” Hinze and Sue, Pat Mangum and Richard, Sharon Hooker and Donald, Shirley Smith and Kelley, Dwayne Hinze and Susan, Leslie Hinze and Patti, Kenneth Hinze and Beate, Gary Hinze and Juli, Edra Bierschwale and Randy, Terry Hinze and Nancy and Alan Hinze; brothers, Grady Barganier and Ernestine, and Bill Barganier and Juanita; sisters, Dorothy Corley and Kathy Patton; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Pennington Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Spire officiating.

Interment will follow in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3429 Executive Center Drive, Ste. 100, Austin, TX. 78731.

Arrangements under the care and guidance of Pennington Funeral Home, 323 N. Comanche, San Marcos, 353-4311.
