Mary C. Hughes

Mrs. Mary C. Hughes, formerly of Buda, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 16 in Friendswood. She was 85 years old.

Mary (Maud) was born in Houston, Nov. 29, 1923 to Aurelia Ann Baker and John N. Carmean Sr. of Giddings.

She had three younger siblings - John (Bud) N. Carmean Jr. (deceased), Jack B. Carmean (deceased) and Molly Carmean Davis of Austin.

Mary would tell you she had a wonderful life, filled with family, friends and travel. She shared many of the experiences and challenges of her generation. Her emotions ebbed and flowed with news of a brother who stormed the beaches of the South Pacific as a Marine in World War II. She lost a dear friend during the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. Mary loved the big band sound and Dixie Land jazz.

She married William H. Kyle Sr. of Rockdale in 1946. They met while both working for the LREC in Giddings. They had two children, John O. Kyle of Dripping Springs and William H. Kyle Jr. of Friendswood.

They moved from Brenham to San Marcos in 1955 and lived there for many years. Mr. Kyle died in 1961.

In August of 1976, she married Vestal B. Hughes (deceased 2003) and the second chapter of her life was written. Their two families became one and many years of wonderful get-togethers and travel ensued. Together, they were wonderful loving parents and grandparents who are missed beyond words.

Mary is survived by her sister Molly Davis and husband Bruce; children John Kyle and wife Amy, William Kyle and wife Carol, Wilson Kyle and wife Gloria; Shannon Patton and husband Mike; grandchildren Rachel Krause and husband Doug, Lauren Kyle and fiancé Jarid Malone, John W. Kyle, Allison Brannen and husband Chris, Brooke Patton, and Taylor, James and Caroline Cartwright and great- grand children Logan and Allison Brannen.

Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. in the Pennington Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Christian Church, 3105 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, TX 78666
