Ludicrous nature of some laws

Gee, for once I agree with Tom McNair (letters, Sunday, October 2) where he states, referring to a bathroom shower area, “imagine how a woman-a wife or daughter-showering after a workout would feel if a man wearing pants walked in.”
This is what would happen if  someone who had transgendered from a birth female to his true male nature was forced, as some states wish to do, to use the restroom of her/his birth gender. This shows the ludicrous nature of  laws that some politicians, seeking political gain by playing to some conservative, religious biases, seek to pass.

After Perez, is Middle East peace possible?

Ron Paul
The death of former Israeli president and prime minister Shimon Peres last week marks the last of the Zionist “old guard” who successfully fought for a UN mandate to establish the state of Israel in what was formerly British Palestine. Much has been written about Peres since his death. He was a peacemaker. He was a warrior. He was brutal. He was complex. It is possible for all of them to be accurate at the same time.

A sobering look beyond the upcoming election

By Lee Hamilton

This campaign year has been full of twists and turns. We don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone on November 8. So talking about what comes afterward seems premature. But it’s been on my mind a lot, because I’m worried.

This is not about who wins the presidency. I’m concerned about the aftermath of this campaign season and how hard it’s going to be for our next set of elected officials, from the President on down, to govern.
