MESA, Ariz. — The Texas State women’s golf team had its best round of the week, finishing with an eight-over 296, Wednesday afternoon in the final round of the WAC Championship held at the Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz.
Three Bobcats each carded a one-over 73 on the final day of play including Krista Puisite, Iman Nordin and Valdis Jonsdottir. Nordin and Puisite each finished inside the top-10, placing fifth and sixth respectively.
As a team, the Bobcats’ 296 was enough to vault them past I-35 rival UTSA on the leaderboard. Texas State finished three shots ahead of the Roadrunners and four clear of Idaho who came into the day tied with the Bobcats.
“Obviously we’re disappointed we didn’t win the WAC, but we’re not going to hang our head,” head coach Mike Akers said. “We’ve earned the right to go to the NCAA Regionals. We will work hard over the next two weeks to get ready for Regionals and look forward to competing for a bid to the national championship.”
Texas State will now await to see where it will play in the NCAA Tournament in May. The NCAA Women’s Golf Selection Show is at 8:00 p.m., on Monday, April 29 on NCAA.com.
