San Marcos Academy’s Middle School track team took first place in both the girls and boys divisions at the Christian Athletic League of San Antonio (CALSA) district track and field championship held last weekend at the Medina Valley High School Track Complex.
Competing against nine other schools, the Bears put on a strong showing at the meet, returning with a 13 gold medals.
Medalists for the girls included Rebekah Hethcock (first place in discus and second place in shot put), Taylor Wilbanks (third place in discus), Allison Hubbard (first in high jump and second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and pole vault), Morgan Gamblin (second in the high jump), Saige Seward (second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles) and Imani Billings (first in the triple jump and 300 hurdles, and second in the 100 hurdles).
The Lady Bears also brought home gold medals in all three different relays.
In the boys division, medalists were Devon Hethcock (first in the 400 meter dash, second in the 200 meter dash and the long jump, third in shot put), Warren Kemp (third in discus), Alexander Terry (third in high jump), Matthew Rindahl (first in the triple jump and pole vault), Miles Allan (third in the 800 meter dash), Matthew Benedetti (first in the 100 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles) and Tola Odumakindle (third in the 110 meter hurdles).
In relays, the boys placed first in the 4x100 and the 4x400 relay, and took third in the 4x200 relay.
The middle school Bears are coached by Lauren Wise and Kelia Price.
