Some good news — depending on how you look at it — finally came out of a newsletter with Dennis Franchione’s name included in its pages.
Last Thursday, Texas State President Denise M. Trauth announced in her email pamphlet “From the Hill” that Franchione, head coach of the Bobcat football team, recently agreed on a new five-year contract. Franchione had been under contract until 2015 at $350,000 per year, but his new deal — which would end in 2017 — will give him a $50,000 raise beginning Feb. 2014.
As expected, this announcement was met with disagreeing views. Some feel Franchione had yet to earn his keep, while a select few felt it was prudent of Texas State to extend Franchione should his team reach the level of success he — and the Bobcat faithful — want.
