Students at San Marcos Academy recently took to the volleyball court with a donation to their favorite charity at stake.
Six teams came up with $50 each to compete in a student council-sponsored volleyball tournament and the last team standing chose to donate the $300 raised to Central Texas Medical Center in support of their breast cancer treatment services.
“We would like to thank the San Marcos Academy’s volleyball teams for their generous donation,” CTMC Foundation Chairman Wayne Becak said. “It is truly great to see these students getting involved in philanthropy at such a young age.”
The volleyball tournament was a first-time project for the student council, which wanted to provide a fun activity for the student body that would also have a community service component.
“Students were really excited about this project and it was a big success for a first-year effort,” Tamra Howe, student council sponsor, said. “We had great participation from the students and even had a faculty team participate. We hope to continue this as an annual project and look forward to seeing it become bigger and better in the future.”
