Floyd Eugene Lackey, 90, of San Marcos, went to be with our Lord and Savior, July 9, 2013, surrounded by his family after living a long and fulfilling life.
He was born in Caney, Okla. to Bert and Sara Lackey on Oct. 24, 1922. One of 12 siblings, Floyd was known as “Shorty.” He joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed at Gary Air Force Base, as a WWII veteran. While serving his country, he met and then spent the next seventy years with the love of his life, Wanda Hodges Lackey.
During his life in San Marcos, Floyd worked for the LCRA for many years before becoming a successful oil jobber for Continental Oil Company. He also was owner and operator of the Ham-an-Eggery Restaurant, where many of his close friends gathered daily. Floyd enjoyed being with his family and collecting a variety of things special to him. Floyd was a great storyteller. His stories could bring you to tears, laughing or crying. Floyd, a devout Christian, known to many as PawPaw, was the rock, the foundation, the example of a generous, loving and caring man.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Lackey, (San Marcos), his children, William (Billy) Lackey and wife Vickie Hoots Lackey (Bowie), Robert (Bobby) Lackey (San Marcos) and his fiancé Gayle Nix (Austin), Patricia (Pat) Lackey (San Marcos), eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Old Ranch Road 12. Funeral services will be Friday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home.
